GODDESS SPIRITUALITY

THE GODDESS IS ALIVE

  • Why do millions of people search for painted eggs and eat chocolate bunnies every Easter? Because thousand of years before the resurrection of Christ, rabbits and eggs were symbols of the fertility Goddess Esotar (Easter). From her name we get the word estrogen.
  • Why do millions decorate a tree every Christmas? Because the tree that stays green - the evergreen - is the symbol of eternal life in the cold darkness of Winter Solstice.
  • Why do millions dress their children in costumes and send them out for candy every October 31? Because in a time of harvest, children are honored as the seed of life. These modern customs are remnants of ancient Goddess rituals that still survive the influences of patriarchal religion. Even after witch hunts and torture that tried to abolish Goddess spirituality, that which is truth is eternal, and therefore cannot die.

The holidays of the Goddess are not about suffering, salvation, or placating a vengeful God. They are life celebrations of cycles and seasons, each symbolic of our own planting, growth, harvest, and resulting inner vision. Goddess religion is a creative, ancient, and wise alternative to the one-dimensional shame-based paradigm. Goddess spirituality offers liberation from a judgmental book of rules (Bible, Koran, Talmud). No, women are not lustful sinners created from a man's rib. Instead, Goddess spirituality respects women as the creators and sustainers of life. Women are respected for their wisdom, with the oldest women being the most revered.

Goddess spirituality connects modern Westerners to all ancient indigenous cultures. The earth-focused spirituality of the Goddess holds the sacredness of a tree in the same esteem as a Chinese Taoist, African spiritualist, American Indian, Australian aborginy, or Japanese Shintoist. It is from the wisdom of nature and her cycles where we learn of growth and decay, death and renewal, strength and life.

Blessed be.
