I'm been an astrologer for over 40 years. I still have my very first astrology book from when I was 11 years old. When I won "Best Astrologer" by San Francisco Weekly, the columnist asked me what makes me the "best." I told her that I've been at this for so long that pretty much anyone who's been plugging away at it for decades like me would be the best too.

I remember back in the '70's doing charts by hand at the Astrologer's Guild on Halsted Street in Chicago. But today we astrologers can hit a button on a computer and, in seconds, have advanced astrological calculations. With my Mercury in Aquarius in the 10th house, my mid-heaven in Aquarius, and my Venus too -- I love it! I'm amazed by the engineering and scientific breakthroughs that I've seen in my lifetime. This truly is the age of Aquarius, as this world-wide internet proves.

So where to begin your understanding of astrology, such a vast and ancient art and science? Well, I'm sure you've been asked, "What's your sign?" meaning what's your Sun sign? Your Sun sign is part of the zodiac ("wheel of the animals" in Greek) that begins with Aries at Spring Equinox. You can determine your Sun sign if you know your birthday. For example, I was born on March 15 and therefore born under the sign of Pisces.

But your birth chart is far more complex than just your Sun sign. There are ten planets in your chart: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. They are leaders, not followers. do not always make the best team players because they are used to being alone.
